Turning Community Voices Into Policy Change

Our Advocacy Mission

At SCTF, we believe effective policy begins with those most affected. We transform community insight, clinical evidence, and lived experience into action—driving change in prevention, early detection, and health equity in gastric cancer.

Why It Matters

Stomach cancer remains one of the most lethal—but most preventable—cancers.

  • In the U.S., the 5-year survival rate is only 36%, compared to over 70% in countries like Korea and Japan where national screening exists.

  • Immigrant and underserved populations face the highest risk but are routinely left out of national prevention strategies.

This gap demands urgent, community-centered policy solutions.

What We Do
  • Provided expert guidance and advocacy for the Stomach Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Act (2025)—the first U.S. legislation to prioritize H. pylori screening and establish a national prevention framework. (Full Bill Text)

  • Deliver clinical and community testimony to policymakers

  • Mobilize support through grassroots campaigns and survivor advocacy

  • Host national forums and webinars to elevate impacted voices

  • Push for prevention and equity to be national public health priorities

Learn more about the 2025 Act and related legislation in our Policy & Legislative Resources.

SCTF’s Role in Policy Change
  • Partnered with Yale’s Gastric Cancer Program to co-author federal legislation

  • Gathered and shared testimony from patients, clinicians, and community advocates

  • Built alliances across medical, nonprofit, and public sectors to advance change
